Blog #5 - THD1383 - Research and Development (Prep for first Interim)

Since the semester has started I have done photo shoots along the theme of Witches and in Today's Lecture introducing THD1383 for Research and Development, we were prepped on what to do and expect from our first Interim Exhibition in the Market Gallery in Queensgate Market.

We are to print ONE A2 image on any paper of our choosing and meet on the 3rd of October to all hang our own work in the gallery. This was a particularly fun experience. Curating my own work to display on the wall and hang it myself in a clean and orderly manner. It's something we haven't really done in previous years, Yes there was hanging our work in the base room but that was a little messier and just finding a space and hanging however you could. The exhibition will be the first time I am hanging my work professionally for the public eye. In a public space no less.

This is also a great place to get feedback from the general public. Not in the ways of asking per say but gaging peoples reactions to our work. If they approach and if they stay to have a deeper look.

I myself have chosen an image from a recent shoot with My model. I did it in one of the woodland areas with a slightly warmer white balance to really bring out the colours in her red hair and the accompanying backdrop. This image in particular I believe is one of the stronger from the shoot, Mainly because of the way she is composed in the image as well as how the image looks overall.

Hopefully my classmates will like this print and get the gist of the idea I'm trying to get across. I didn't wan't to photography Witches in an incredibly stereotypical way with the Green skin, Broom and Pointed Black hat. I wanted to make it a little prettier, sexier if you will. Sort of like the new age feminism that stormed the 90's and early 00's. Inspiration such as The Craft or Practical magic. Evidence that you don't have to be like a crone to be a witch. You can look beautiful, like a seductress.

Overall I hope my image is received well.
