Blog #7 - First Interim Exhibition
As October Begins we have our first Interim Exhibition in the Gallery space in Queensgate Market. We were tasked to submit 1 A2 image that represented your chosen theme. This was to say the least an interesting experience not only to present my own work but also to give and receive feedback from peers and staff alike. I'll admit at a student who went on placement I found it a little difficult to get back into the university evaluation mindset but after a few rounds and a handy sheet for help, I got the hang of it with my small group giving our peers our honest reviews.
Above is the image I submitted for my chosen theme of Witches to marry alongside my dissertation. I printed on Matt paper as I thought it may have brought the warm colours I shot in. The image on the left is how it was in the gallery and the right is the feedback I got in form of sticky notes. Reading these back I was a little confused at where my peers and my tutor wanted me to take the project. I was told it was just a pretty picture and didn't fit with my theme. When they though of a Witch they thought of the classic Wizard of OZ Wicket witch with a pointed hat. This was something I was hoping to get across not only in my exhibition pieces but also in my dissertation. That not all witches are Ugly and fit into the stereotype, especially with the 90's girl power new wave witches that we still know of today. After this exhibition though I believe it may be back to the drawing board to see what else I can come up with and how I can get from just a pretty picture to a substantial piece of work.
